Your Furry Valentine

Ahhhhh. Valentine’s Day. That wonderful day of the year that features hearts, flowers, and cherubs.

For some, Valentine’s Day isn’t so great. They think there’s no reason to feel their heart beating with love for someone, because they at the moment don’t have anyone to love. They don’t want to know about everyone else’s favorite valentine because they don’t have a valentine.

But there is so much out in the world to love. It doesn’t have to be a human. And everything in this world loves being appreciated.

The air you breathe. The flowers. The trees. Your couch - yes, your couch, which has held your backside up off the floor since you’ve had it. You can love your couch.

If you have a car, that’s another thing that really appreciates some love. My red Subaru Forester is named Natasha, because - well, let’s just say I’m a fantasy and science fiction fan, and see if you can figure out why we call her Natasha (a name she likes, by the way).

And how about your furry friends? They are by our sides, day in and day out, seldom complaining, always happy to see us (even the cats and the fish), and love us unconditionally. Let’s express some love for our furry, scaly or feathered friends.

On Valentine’s Day at our house, we don’t give the animals little cards (because honestly, unless they can eat it, they don’t care.) But they do get pets, hugs, maybe a little extra something in their morning food. We appreciate them every day of the year, even when there’s fur on the pillow and the gift of a poo in the hallway at the bottom of the stairs. They are who they are, and they don’t pretend to be anything other than that. How refreshing!

I can’t think of a better valentine than someone who calls it like it is and who loves me for exactly who I am. I am a better person for reaching out to the wind, the trees, Natasha, and all of our furry family, and showing them some love.

They deserve it. And so do you. So Happy Valentine’s Day from all of us here at Harmony’s Heart. We appreciate you. Make sure you do the same for yourself, because you deserve to be appreciated.
