Ponies and People

Who says horses are useless? In the days when automobiles were becoming popular, there was a rumor going around that horses were on their way out.
Well, that didn't happen.
Horses, being wonderful creatures, have redefined themselves, with our help. Humans realized how important horses are to our well-being. In the old days they were a tool - pull that wagon, till that soil, cut and bring in that hay, round up those cattle. They still do some of those jobs, and in some cases it's their primary job. But they are also companions on the trail, they jump fences, they race, and they also still round up those cattle, sometimes just for fun (think "City Slickers").
They also listen, and let us cry into their manes.
LiLi
They are breathing a huge collective sigh of relief, because humans have finally caught on to the fact that there is so much more to horse energy than originally thought. It's been a long wait for our equine friends. They have said it's worth it.
This past weekend, several of our horses participated in a weekend for women who are suffering from cancer. Tango, Willa, LiLi and Chancie all knocked it out of the park. Each one is a different personality, and each one chose the person they would work with. When we pay close attention, we can see them asking to be put with a particular person. I don't know how they know, but they know way better than we do what the person needs. When we let our own thoughts get in the way, the pairing may not be as good, but most times it will still work. Horses are adaptable, you see.
Willa
We can take many lessons from them.
Listen without judgement. Say what's on your heart. Be authentic. Stay in your body instead of your head.
Be. Here. NOW.
Early this June, a colleague and I will be partnering with our horses offering a weekend for women to refresh, relax, and renew themselves. We are caregivers, women are, and we need to have a full tank so we can give back. If the tank's empty, there's nothing to give.

So if you know a woman who would benefit from a weekend of hanging with horses in a beautiful country setting, being pampered with a room all paid for, meals all paid for, and oooo, oooo, chocolate, send this post to them. Here's a link for more info and to sign up. There are only a few spots left, so make sure you register soon.
