Kittens!!
Jun 17, 2025
I love cats.
I love all animals, but there's something about cats. Maybe it's the inscrutable looks. Maybe it's the little surprises (no hairballs) like when they cuddle up to me for no reason whatsoever except to tell me they love me. Maybe it's having a cat for four years who finally, finally, is okay with me kissing him on the top of the head, and has been making "maybe I'll sit in your lap" overtures.
Your lap almost looks appealing. Almost.
It will probably be another four years until Jackson decides a lap is a good thing, but considering his background (semi-feral, lots of other cats, having to constantly protect himself) he's come a long way in the trusting humans department.
So - kittens.
Our cats made it very clear after cats four and five passed on that three was plenty, thank you very much. It's been several years that it's just been the three of them. Ever hopeful, I keep waiting for them (and my beloved, Glenn), to decide maybe a couple more felines would be okay. One of the things that held us back was the fact that we didn't know where we were going to land, home-wise.
That seems to have been solved at this point. We're not going anywhere. Our house is a great house. We have great people living downstairs who feed the horses for us, and help out with projects that require more than two sets of hands. The area is beautiful. Aside from no radiant heat in the floor, this house has pretty much everything we could possible want. So we will stay.
"Oh goody," thinks I, "maybe that means we can get a couple more cats!"
I was at PetSmart the other day and they always have cats and kittens for adoption from local rescues. I almost always do a drive by, just to see who's there, and usually the cats/kittens could care less about me. HOWEVER.
Look at these two! The black and white one reminds me so much of the feral cat (we called him HarryPotter because of multiple lightning bolts in white on his body)) who shared half his soul with Ry. The tabby has the most adorable face.
Aren't they cute? A girl (tabby) and a boy (B&W)
Both of them made sure I noticed them and rubbed against the glass and generally sucked up big time. Oooo, ooooo, maybe these are the ones!
Nope.
The cats at home are STILL "We are just fine being three, thank-you-very-much." Glenn feels essentially the same way. Bummer. I'm not bucking up against that resistance. There's a reason.
Fortunately, I adore our three cats and make much of them, so I get plenty of cat-time, and I think that's one of the things they don't want to change. If I'm being totally honest, I don't want it to change, either. Our three cats are beautiful and amazing. We will continue to be a three-cat family, and I know those kittens will find very good homes.
Sometimes you just get to look.

I'm going to be on vacation for the next two weeks, so there will be no blogs. Just sayin'. I'll be back at it in early July, hopefully with lots to talk about.
