Dog Walking

Niko

I keep hearing the BeeGees. Of course their song was called "Jive Talkin'", which is totally not the same thing, but it works... Dog Walkin' - Jive Talkin' - Just sayin'.

I'm writing this on Labor Day (here in the good ol' US of A) - September 1. My beloved partner and husband, Glenn Weissel, went up to Boulder to see his mom, who is soon to transition (in animal parlance, she will be crossing the rainbow bridge). We both went yesterday, and today he wanted to go alone and spend some time with his daughter, who came down from Wyoming to say goodbye to her Grammy. This is a happy/sad time for us. We're sorry to have her leaving, and at the same time, she has been in pain and miserable for years, so this transition is a VERY GOOD thing. But sad. If it resonates with you, send her beams of Love and Light, and direct her to the bridge. It may be by the time you receive this that she'll already be gone, but every Love beam and Light arrow is recognized and appreciated.

Glenn and his mom about 18 months ago.

So - what did I do while Glenn was gone? I took our three dogs to two different parks. First I stopped at Starbucks to fuel myself up. Then we went to this fabulous 15-acre park and they ran around and greeted lots of other dogs. It's hilly, so they wore themselves out. They also did their poop thing, so I was back and forth to the disposal container three times - since apparently it's impossible for them to poo close enough together to make just one run. But that's okay, I needed the exercise.

15 acres - Amy in the foreground, Bernadette left, Niko the big dog ignoring us.

Niko, close to 12 and slowing down, did very well - we meandered and did the loop in Niko time - which means I got to rest a few times too! The younger dogs (they are 8 but we still call them puppies), ran around while Niko meandered along behind. Once we were going downhill again, he perked up. The picture shows us going downhill. Niko is in the lead and acting like a younger dog.

Then we went for a ride. There's a nifty park in the foothills where dogs need to be on a leash, but there are lots of trees and trails, horses, bikes and hikers, and we all love it there. I felt like I needed some tree time. Except I couldn't exactly recall where the park is. So we drove for a very long time - I was convinced the park was on a certain road, but noooooo. After about a hour (and some fruitless searching on my phone, because there was NO SIGNAL), we turned around, took a different route home, and...TA DAH!! There it was. I'm not usually driving there, so that's my excuse. I'm glad we found it; I won't forget again.

The Vista from our spot on the bench

We parked and walked a little ways down a trail until I found a bench in some shade. Sat still and looked at the vista. Wind in the trees. The smell of sap. Horses whinnying in the background. Ahhhhh. Then we went home.

Glenn got home about an hour after us, and because he'd been sitting all day, he needed a walk. So the dogs and I went with him. Three outings in one day! We're all going to sleep good tonight.
