Dog Hair and Dust

Two Dogs Looking Out Window

Not gonna give any suggestions, except if you don’t like dog hair, or dust (or cat hair for that matter), a pet is not for you.

We live on a dirt road. Sometimes it’s really dusty. This is Colorado, after all. So not only do we have dog hair, regular dust, and cat hair, we’ve got road dust. Wheeeee.

It’s a part of living in nature. Nature is dirty. We’ve forgotten how to get dirty, nature-wise. A little dirt never hurt anybody.

Pigpen from Charlie Brown has the right idea.

Back to the inside of the house. There is a spot in our kitchen where dust bunnies accumulate. I think they hold a convention there. I can run Hazel-the-Roomba, and 20 minutes later dust bunnies have returned to that little corner of the kitchen. We probably clean it three to four times a day. Like regular bunnies, those dust bunnies breed.

Site of dust bunny conventions (husband included for size comparison).

Good thing I’m not a fanatic about cleanliness.

We also have dogs with medium hair, and two (very) long haired cats, but don’t be fooled! Jackson the short haired deposits an inordinate amount of hair everywhere.

Do we brush our animals? Sort of. We’re not fanatics about it. But everyone gets brushed at least a couple of times a week. The cats, even Jackson who was our most feral, turns inside out at being brushed. They will push one another aside to get under the brush. Lots of purring.

It’s MY turn to be brushed!

The dogs are more like “well, if we must.” Not their favorite thing. They’d rather be outside keeping the vole population down (and upsetting their tummies in the process).

Bottom line - love your animals, love their fur (in your mouth, in your bed, being a dust bunny convention in the corner of the kitchen), and get dirty now and then. It feels good.
